FAQ: Improving Battery Life

Since Version 1.4, the FreeRDP plugin uses hardware acceleration to improve the rendering performance of remote sessions.
This allows for a significant performance boost if your Mac has a dedicated graphics card but comes at the cost of draining the battery faster.

To switch back to non-hardware-accelerated rendering and improve the battery life of your Mac, please follow these steps:
  • Open Royal TSX' preferences
  • Navigate to "Plugin Settings" - "Remote Desktop" and make sure the "Plugin Settings" tab is selected
  • Disable "Use Hardware Acceleration"
It might be required to restart Royal TSX after taking the above steps (depends on the machine).
Optionally you can also enable "Limit Mouse Event Rate". This will send mouse events at a more battery friendly rate but causes fast movements and scrolling to appear a bit less "smooth".
